Puszta Tour, starting point Budapest
When you feel it’s enough from the city, let’s go to Hungary’s southern Great Plains. It’s a day trip to the towns of Kecskemet and Lajosmizse. You’ll find there Hungary’s sunniest region, a land of rivers and lakes, it’s a paradise for lovers of fishing, water sports and horse riding.
The tour takes you on a nice drive through the beautiful Great Plains to Kecskemet. There you will be taken on a guided walk through the town. Kecskemet with its historical monuments, nature reserves and a thriving cultural life, for example the theatre and the mill, is the largest town in this region.
Then let’s continue our way to Lajosmizse, where you will be greeted with a traditional welcome drink, what is called pálinka here. One of the famous horsemen of the region will show an exciting performance, then you’ll take a carriage ride through the Puszta, the typical steppe landscape of the Great Plains. If you are lucky you can see “délibáb” ,also known as fata morgana.
You’ll then enjoy a Hungarian three-course meal at a traditional tavern with gypsy music and wine.
On your return to Budapest, you’ll drive through the unique landscape of sand dunes, grasslands, well-kept pastures and rolling fields of wheat, reed-lined waterways and backwaters and tiny white farms.
