The Parliament tour
A great way of getting a closer look at Budapest’s outstanding Parliament house, is by taking a guided tour through this architectural masterpiece. Since the tour begins in the morning, you will have the rest of the day for exploring the city and what it offers on.
The Parliament, which during a period was the biggest parliament in the world, was built between 1885 and 1902. The spectacular dome with its 69 meters, covers 691 rooms and staircases that when added together, will be as long as 20 km. So it’s not a surprise that this is Hungary’s largest building.
There are several influences putting their special touch to the building. The base ground plan is made in a Baroque style, while the interior has a Byzantine touch which is quite noticeable; the staircase hall is probably the strongest evidence for that. But it is the neo-Gothic and Renaissance influences that make the strongest imprints on the building.
So take the great opportunity and see the home of the Holy Hungarian Crown, be amazed by the Great Vaulted Hall, central staircase and the incredible Session Room. Not to mention the history and anecdotes housing this national treasure.
